A Balanced Option for Adventure SeekersMy recent two-night stay at El Vaquero in Chugchilan was quite the experience, especially for those who enjoy the great outdoors on a budget. Nestled in the picturesque Andean region, this hostel is simply a stone's throw from the trailhead to Quilotoa, making it an ideal base for hike enthusiasts like myself. The accommodation itself is basic but does deliver on cleanliness and comfort. The hot water was a bit hit or miss, which is typical of remote areas at altitude. The best part was the hearty breakfast and dinner that came with the room - filling and satisfying after a long day outdoors. For an extra $3, you can unwind in the sauna, adding a touch of relaxation after your adventures. A packed lunch option is also available, which is useful for a day of hiking. While it's not a luxury hotel, the value for the price is strong, especially considering the amenities and supportive staff.
